Kali Silat in itself is a complete system. It includes art forms for the various combat ranges and a variety of weapons that integrate and combine into the system. This combination includes Kali Silat (Knife, Stick(solo/double baston) Sikaran (Kicking) Dumog (Grappling) and Panantukon (Filipino Boxing).

Yusuf Ahmed started his martial arts training in Jeet Kune Do under Nick Sacoulas of Progressive Martial Arts in New York in 2004. He began studying various fighting concepts and was able to learn about different combat arts such as Muay Thai, Jujitsu and Filipino Combat Arts. It was through these studies he discovered Maphalindo Silat and Kali\Arnis\Escrima. Thereafter, he immediately took a strong interest in Filipino Martial Arts. Yusuf would go to New York City, where he met and studied under Guro Rajah Frank Ortega, founder of the Tirada Tirsia Kali Silat style. Guro Frank Ortega was the first U.S. student of Grand Tuhon Leo Gaje and founder of Pekiti Tirsia Kali and is one of the pioneers in spreading the art of Kali Silat in the east coast for the last 30 years.

Since then Yusuf has dedicated his studies to the various styles and concepts of the Filipino Martial Arts. He has studied a variety of Kali/Escrima/Arnis De Mano systems including one’s derived from Pekiti-Tirsia, Lameco, Inosanto Maphalindo Kali Silat, Sayoc Kali and Sabayan Kali. Yusuf was a leading instructor at Sabayan Kali Academy in New York City and more recently taught Kali Silat at Aqabah Karate in College Park, MD. In addition to Filipino Martial Arts Yusuf also has studied White Crane Chi Gung, Chin na, Machado BJJ and Brazilian Jiu jitsu at Pedro Sauer Academy.
