At the Silat Institute, we’re excited to welcome new students who are ready to learn, grow, and be part of a strong community. Our goal is to provide high-quality instruction in Pencak Silat while helping each student build character, discipline, and confidence.

To get started, we invite you to apply using the form below. As part of the process, all new students begin with a $35 trial package, which includes 3 classes. This gives you a chance to experience our training, meet our instructors, and see if Silat is the right fit for you.

Ages 8 and up:
Students are asked to memorize the Silat Creed and complete a simple physical test (10 pushups or a 1.5-minute plank) as part of the admission process. You can download the Creed here. If you’re not quite ready yet, no problem—you’re welcome to reapply after 2 months.

Ages 5–7:
Younger students will participate in the 3 trial classes before being considered for admission. During this time, instructors will gently evaluate their ability to listen, learn, and participate positively in class. If a student isn’t quite ready, they are welcome to reapply after 5 months.

By submitting this form, the participant (or parent/guardian) acknowledges the inherent risks of Pencak Silat training, including the possibility of injury, and agrees to release and hold harmless the Silat Institute, its staff, Abdul-Malik Ahmad, and affiliated parties from any related claims arising from participation in classes, events, or travel. Participants under 18 must have parent or guardian consent. The participant confirms they have completed a physical exam within the past year and are medically fit to train. Any liability, if established, will be limited to the lesser of actual medical expenses or $2,000. All payments are final and non-refundable. The participant (and parent/guardian) also grants permission for the use of photos, videos, and media for promotional purposes across platforms without compensation.
