Classes

At the Pencak Silat Martial Arts School, we offer a variety of class options to suit the needs of our diverse student base. This includes separate classes for girls and boys, providing a comfortable and focused environment for each to develop their skills. Additionally, we host family classes, a unique offering where members of all ages and genders can train together. These family sessions foster a sense of community and shared learning, making them a popular choice for those who wish to experience the journey of Silat as a unit.

View schedule

Each class, regardless of the group, follows a structured format divided into three sections: 1) Warm-up, exercises, and stretching to prepare the body, 2) Techniques, where students learn the various aspects of Silat, and 3) Sparring, which is initiated once students are ready and have acquired a chest guard for safety. Chest guards are available for purchase here.

Classes at our school are typically 1 hour and 45 minutes long, inclusive of several breaks to ensure students remain energized and focused. However, there are times when the enthusiasm and energy levels are high, especially when we have a larger group of students. On such occasions, we often extend our sessions beyond 2 hours, embracing the fun and dynamic spirit of Pencak Silat training. This flexibility allows for an immersive and enjoyable learning experience for all our students.

To wear our official Silat uniform in class, students must first memorize our school’s creed, emphasizing service, respect, discipline, improvement, and the strength derived from faith and morality. Upon mastering the creed, students can purchase the uniform.

Note: We will take a break at sunset for our students who are Muslim to pray.

Grappling Class

Silat Institute grappling program involves a structured approach that builds on foundational techniques and progressively introduces more complex concepts and skills. Our unique curriculum is based on no-gi techniques and provides a seamless integration from our Pencak Silat striking, throwing and ground fighting skills to BJJ or grappling (useful only for one-on-one unarmed combat). Unlike with Pencak Silat ground techniques that include strikes, grappling involves controlling one opponent without the use of strikes. The curriculum also includes a competitive aspect which involves competing in tournaments. (For current Silat students only).
